RARE 1930s Vintage Roamer Swiss Tank Watch

Let us introduce you to one of our most exciting recent discoveries: this rare 1930s vintage Roamer tank watch! It's one of the oldest wristwatches in our vintage collection, and we've been surprised by how well this watch has been preserved. With roughly 90 years of time-keeping history, this impressive Swiss watch is now ready for a new story!

The watch has been part of a German watchmaker's collection. So it has been preserved with care, regularly cleaned, and serviced over the years. The Swiss mechanical movement of the watch is still functional.

We have added a brand new watch strap to the silver-tone case. This rare Roamer watch model will best accommodate small to medium ladies wrist sizes, or small gents' wrist sizes.

Roamer Watches

Roamer was founded in Solothurn, Switzerland, in 1888 by Fritz Meyer. At first, Meyer and employees concentrated on manufacturing cylinder escapements. Within only 7 years (in 1895), the company grows to 60 employees and produces complete watches. In the same year, the company develops its first own caliber and names it number 38 to commemorate the 38th birthday of the company’s founder.

In 1905 Meyer joined with fellow watchmaker Johann Studeli to form the partnership Meyer and Studeli (MST). In the same year[3] Meyer won a Bronze medal at the Liege World Fair. The partnership continued to develop new calibers and enter them into more World Fairs, winning Silver Medals at the Milan Fair in 1906 and Brussels Fair in 1910.

In 2003, Roamer returned to manufacturing mechanical watches.

In 2013, its 125 year anniversary, Roamer launched a limited new edition of the Stingray Chrono Diver watch. Roamer is a member of the Federation of the Swiss Watch Industry FH.

About mechanical watches

mechanical watch is a watch that uses a clockwork mechanism to measure the passage of time, as opposed to quartz watches which function electronically, with the help of a small battery.

A mechanical watch is driven by a mainspring which must be hand-wound periodically. Its force is transmitted through a series of gears to power balance, a weighted wheel that oscillates back and forth at a constant rate. A device called an escapement releases the watch's wheels to move forward a small amount with each swing of the balance wheel, moving the watch's hands forward at a constant rate.

Mechanical watches are classic vintage pieces, beautiful displays of minimalism and old-school features. Some of the most elegant mechanical watches, for true vintage enthusiasts, are now available in our vintage mechanical watch collection
