"Helbros watches was founded by the Helbein brothers in 1913. The company registered a trademark registered in New York in 1916 and in Geneva in 1918, which is why it is believed by many to have been founded in 1918.
In the US, Helbein used all the mediums available to him to sell watches. He used print advertising, radio advertising, and later TV advertising. He distributed watches through catalogs, shops, dealers, approval, and any other way he and his company could find. Helbros made watches for any taste, and pretty much any pocket.
At its height, Helbros was a major US watch company, and Helbein was an important figure. Helbein was the first chair of the American Watch Assemblers Association, and was a Director of the American Watch Association. When he died at the age of 70 in his home in Park Lane, he left a successful company. Perhaps in recognition of the challenges of his early life, a memorial scholarship was established in his name at Brandeis University." Read more about the history of the brand here.
Our collection of Helbros watches
Our collection of Helbros watches includes vintage and new pieces. After the death of Helbein, the Helbros watch manufacturer has disappeared for a while. But Helbros has been acquired by other holdings, which have marketed quartz watches under the same name for many years now.
Every time we introduce a Helbros watch, we'll mention whether if it's a veritable vintage model, dating back to the brand's golden days, or whether it's a newer watch model. The type of movement should also be taken as an indicator, since back in its early years Helbros did not produce watches with quartz movement.
The world's first quartz clock was built in 1927 by Warren Marrison and J. W. Horton at Bell Telephone Laboratories. The world's first quartz watch, however, was unveiled by Seiko as the Astron in December 1969. Since the 1980s, when the advent of solid-state digital electronics allowed them to be made compact and inexpensive, quartz timekeepers have become the world's most widely used timekeeping technology, used in most clocks and watches as well as computers and other appliances that keep time.
Simply put, quartz watches are timepieces that need a battery to keep time.
