From the 1930s until today, some spectacular Mickey Mouse watches have been produced. Let's check out some of the most expensive timepieces that have held their value over the years.
Mickey Mouse
Mickey Mouse is a cartoon character created in 1928 by Walt Disney, and most likely the most popular cartoon character of all time. Therefore, a lot of watch brands wanted Mickey on their dial. And in the last almost 100 years, there are over 15 watch brands that feature Mickey Mouse on their watches, including Gerald Genta, Rolex, Ingersoll, Swatch, Seiko, Lorus, Timex, Bradley, Citizen, Invicta & more.
The first Mickey Mouse wristwatch was released in 1933 and it retailed for $3.75 at the time. It was a huge success: Macy's sold 11,000 pieces on the first day after the watch went on sale. Most Valuable Disney Watches
With such a rich history and longevity, vintage and antique Mickey Mouse watches became harder and harder to find in working condition and their prices have skyrocketed over the years.
We strived to include as many models and brands as possible, so that you can get a better picture of the vast diversity that is out there, in terms of both prices and designs.
1. Gérald Genta Arena Retrograde Smile Mickey Mouse Disney Watch - $40,000
At the top of our list, we find the Gérald Genta Arena Retrograde Smile Mickey Mouse Disney watch that has a price tag between $35,000-$40,000 and is limited to 150 pieces. We are sure that not many of you knew a Mickey Mouse watch could be this expensive, nor who Gérald Genta is.
Gérald Charles Genta was a Swiss watch designer that created some of the most popular watch designs out there, such as the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak and the Patek Philippe Nautilus. In 1969, he also created his own brand and in 1994, he designed the Grande Sonnerie Retro, the world's most complicated wristwatch, priced at approximately $2 million.
During the 1980s, Genta obtained special licensing from The Walt Disney Company and distributed a limited edition of Disney character watches to the public.
2. Gerald Genta Retro G3622 Stainless Steel 28mm Quartz Watch - $8,500
Gerald Genta watches range between $5,000 and $40,000 and we had to include another model from them. The Gerald Genta Retro G3622 Stainless Steel has a case of around 28mm, a date window at 6 o'clock, and it depicts Mickey Mouse in a different pose.
Some might consider this particular model a lot cheaper and affordable ($8,500), while others might still see it as a fortune. Gerald Genta cannot be matched by anyone when it comes to Mickey Mouse watches.

3. Rolex Oyster Perpetual Mickey Mouse Watch Circa 1970s - $5,000
Walt Disney was a big fan of Rolex watches and there is a theory that there was a secret agreement between Disney and Rolex and some pieces with Mickey Mouse on the dial were produced. However, this theory has neither been confirmed or infirmed by either party. There are several watch-related websites that write about this "Unicorn Story" such as Ablogtowatch, Collectorsweekly, Chronext, and even the community on Rolexforums.
At this point, there are many Rolex Oyster Perpetual Mickey Mouse Watches for sale on eBay and Chrono24, where the dial is aftermarket. This means that Mickey Mouse was added afterwards on the dial, not by the Rolex brand itself when the watch was produced. The watch movement and case are completely original, but the dials are considered by many in the grey area or simply "fake" because they have been tempered with after they came out of the Rolex factory.
Whether the story is real or not, we may never know, but Rolex Mickey Mouse watches are cool and unique timepieces that many people are very fond of. What do you think? Would you buy a Rolex watch that's been changed aftermarket to feature Mickey Mouse on the dial? Let us know in the comments!
