Votum is a watch brand from Biel, Switzerland, producing exquisite mechanical timepieces since 1962. The brand was at its peak in the ’60s when the cosmopolitan city of Biel confirmed its positioning amongst the most influential cities in the watchmaking industry. The already flourishing watch metropolis, paved the way to further developments in the watch manufacturing industry, granting essential access to the desired know-how required to produce unique state-of-the-art jewelry watches.
At the beginning of the ’70s, following the reorganization of the company and the relocation to Hamburg, Germany, the watch brand reached another milestone with the sheer wonder of its innovation, harmoniously incorporated into modern timepieces. The unpredictable retreat of the brand into oblivion inspired award-winning watchmaker Francois Zahnd to collaborate with graphic designer Rolf Bodmer in pursuit of the renaissance of the Votum Watch brand, marking a new chapter in the brand’s history.
The passion for mechanical Swiss watches is shared by Zurich-born designer and graphic artist Rolf Bodmer, born in 1957, and watch manufacturer and watch expert François Zahnd, born in Biel in 1961. The two men met at an industry event in the summer of 2015 and decided to revive the dormant watch brand.
