For our video tutorial, we used a Swatch Irony Chronograph YCS1005 TIME CUT watch model, but you can apply this technique to a variety of watch models. The key thing is that your watch needs to have a chronograph function.

What is a chronograph watch?
A chronograph watch is a timepiece that has an extra function that can be used as a stopwatch.
How to tell if my watch has a chronograph function?
A chronograph watch will usually have multiple sub-dials and a couple of extra buttons on the side of the case, besides the crown. You can use these buttons to activate and use the chrono function as a stopwatch.
However, there are many exceptions. There are watches with a single, classic dial, and no extra buttons that have a chronograph function. In this case, the chronograph is usually activated by pushing on the crown of the watch.
A good indicator that your watch has a hidden chrono function is if the watch has an extra hand. If that hand never moves, but your watch keeps time correctly, it might mean that this hand is used for the chronograph function (see the red hand in our video).
Another way to know if you have a chronograph function is if the words chronograph, stop, start/stop, stopwatch, etc. appear somewhere on the face or on the back of the watch (see photo below).
Many digital watches incorporate a chrono function as well. For example, most Casio watches offer this feature. But in most cases it is mentioned somewhere on the case (see photo below).
